When planning a wedding, some things go without saying - there will be a couple, a venue, drinking, dancing, and a pork pie wedding cake? For newlyweds Laura and Steve, this unique family tradition is something they intend to carry on for generations.

Mother of the bride, June Ruthven, from Frome, Somerset, couldn't have imagined her daughter's wedding day without a showstopping pork pie wedding cake, just like the one she had on her special day 38 years ago, so she got in touch with Pork Farms, her former employer, to see if they could recreate it.

It was back in 1964, when June began her love affair for all things savoury by starting a Saturday job in Hyson Green bakery, serving customers everything from filled pork pies to flaky sausage rolls. Fast-forward 17 years, and Pork Farms gifted her an impressive pork pie cake for her own wedding in 1981, to say thanks for all her hard work.

Not content with just recreating June's pork pie wedding cake for her daughter, Pork Farms' Nottingham Bakery went all out and created a three-tiered masterpiece, with over 50 servings of pork pie. The 10-inch-wide and 12-inch-high cake is filled with 100 per cent British pork, seasoned jelly and topped with handcrafted pastry decorations.

On the day, it took centre stage as Laura and Steve tied the knot at Orchardleigh House in Frome. Commenting on helping the family continue its tradition, brand marketing manager at Addo Food Group, Michael Holton said: "We are delighted to be a small part of Laura and Steve's celebrations, and we hope that this unique take on the traditional wedding cake will play a part in creating a memorable day for both of them. Special thanks to our wonderful chef Brian, who pulled together this request so quickly for the wedding. We hope the couple has a very long and happy marriage!"

Mother of the bride, June said: "I am over the moon that Pork Farms responded to my request and allowed us to continue our unique family tradition! It brought bring back all the memories from my own wedding and created brand new ones with my daughter Laura and son-in-law, Steve."

Newly-wed, Laura said: "It's wonderful that the pie from my mum's wedding back in 1981 was recreated in time for our wedding day. Pork Farms went above and beyond to make this happen and it was so special to be able to surprise our guests with the amazing cake."
