Whether it's an open bar, live band or fireworks, choosing the best elements to add to your wedding day could really make or break your big day, new research reveals.

Wedding experts Queensmith analysed thousands of comments from Reddit to reveal the things that really matter to guests when attending a wedding. Unsurprisingly, an open bar is a consistent success with guests at a wedding, however, it seems seating charts and a late-night snack are just as important.

Taking comments with the most Reddit upvotes (similar to a 'like' on other social media platforms) when discussing specific things that resulted in users having the best time at a wedding, here are the ten things guests really care about:

1 Open Bar
2 Seating Chart
3 Midnight Snacks
4 Couple having fun
5 Good music
6 Logistics/ Transportation
7 Social spaces
8 Pictures with the couple
9 Go on until late
10 Timeline

According to the data, having a little structure to the day is of great importance to guests, with seating charts getting an impressive 540 upvotes. Multiple users relayed experiences of being caught out at weddings by there not being an appropriate number of tables and chairs available for the guests.

One Redditor commented, "We grouped people by interest and tried to make sure at least two sets of people per table knew each other. "The only exception was the gluten-free table, where some people knew one another but the main similarity was that gluten was their enemy."

Laura Suttie from Queensmith commented: "Weddings are a great way to celebrate your love for each other, but also an amazing opportunity to bring all of your loved ones together. Thoughtful attention to the needs and desires of your guests will make them feel special, appreciated and welcome. However, our study also highlights how important it is for you to let go and enjoy your special day. Over 200 people said how important it is for the couple to have fun, dance and be amongst all the guests, setting the tone for the day. Embrace every moment ahead of the next chapter of your life."

Married to your surname? 26% of women are planning on keeping theirs

Lots of people are ditching traditions when it comes to modern weddings and marriage - one of which quickly losing favour is the tradition of taking your partner's surname. In a recent survey carried out by Pandora UK, almost nine in ten (88%) women said they think that attitudes to married names are changing in 2026 ¹. When asked, over a quarter (26%) of unmarried women said they'd keep their last name if they got married, whilst less than half (45%) said they'd take their partner's name. This is indicative of the shift in opinion in recent years, as when married women were asked, only a sixth (17%) of women said they kept their maiden names when they got married, whilst the majority (78%) took their partner's surname, with just 4% choosing to double-barrel their last name with their significant other.
