Step into a foodie haven at The Lock Keeper as the riverside pub reopens its doors following a stunning refurbishment. Set to the backdrop of the Keynsham Lock, the historic pub is back with a new look and a host of exciting menus, which shine a spotlight on seasonal British ingredients, handpicked at the height of harvest.
Located a 10-minute drive from Bristol city centre in the charming village of Keynsham, the Grade II listed inn has been sensitively restored throughout, blending original features with contemporary flourishes. Sitting on the banks of the River Avon, diners can enjoy the view from the pub’s bright and airy conservatory space, with an eclectic mix of seating and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river and countryside views. In the summer, there is a new and improved riverside terrace, leading down to the expansive garden and the lock.
Enjoy the view alongside a choice of hearty dishes from the pub’s new menus, created by Head Chef Jake Martin. With a focus on hand-picked ingredients, the menus are designed to celebrate the changing seasons and pay homage to British harvest, from succulent steaks from nearby Newton Farm in Bath to sustainable game sourced from Church Farm in Oxford. Signature dishes include Cured mackerel with rhubarb ketchup, chicory and blood orange and fennel dressing, Newton Farm 8oz rib-eye with triple cooked chips and smoked pink peppercorn butter, and Celeriac and cavolo nero cassoulet with herb-crumb and samphire.
There is also a concise selection of classic pub bites, including Scotch eggs and Sausage rolls, while Sundays are for indulging in a quintessential pub roast. Be spoilt for choice with 28-day aged Rump of beef, Roast chicken, Braised pork belly or Heritage squash gratin, or share the love with a roast sharer, including Braised Ox cheek – all come with an abundance of crispy yet fluffy roast potatoes, double egg Yorkshires and seasonal vegetables, plus lashings of gravy.
Behind the bar, British breweries take centre stage with a collection of ales including Bath Gem from Bath Ales, Proper Job from St Austell Brewery and Moose River from Hop Union Brewery, alongside Young’s Original. The Lock Keeper also has a well-stocked selection of wines carefully chosen to enhance the menu, along with cocktails and spritz, ideal for a sundowner on the terrace.
Right by the canal, The Lock Keeper sits proudly along the Kingswood Heritage Trail as a perfect pitstop for walkers and families. Open to all seven days a week, including four-legged friends, regulars and new guests can expect a range of community events, from Sip & Paint classes to spring wreath making workshops.
